Frequently Asked Questions
About Psychotherapy
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about psychotherapy and the work I do.
If you can’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to fill out a contact form with your question.
What are your fees for individual therapy?
My fees for individual therapy are as follows:
€100 for the first introductory 50-minute session
€100 for subsequent sessions as part of pre-paid “modules” of minimum 4 scheduled weekly or bi-monthly sessions
€120 for stand-alone “one-off” sessions
Payments can be made by credit/debit card or by bank transfer.
All payments are invoiced and can be deducted as a health expense through the Italian Revenue Service
I offer both: we can choose to meet online or in my Studio in Via Francesco Soave 24, Milan.
With some clients we choose a “hybrid” model, meeting some weeks in person, other weeks online.
Do you offer online therapy or in-person therapy?
This depends on your insurance provider - please check with your provider regarding accessing psychotherapy.
Do you take insurance?
Can we meet first before I decide if I want to start therapy?
Absolutely.
You can book an initial introductory session where we can discuss your needs and I can answer any questions you may have about therapy. Then you can take the time to decide if you’d like to start therapy or not.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, as a psychologist/psychotherapist I am not licensed to prescribe medication.
If you are living in Italy are are in need of medication, you will need to reach out to your Medico di Base or contact a Licensed Psychiatrist.
What if I can’t afford your fees
For some people, therapy through private practice may not be sustainable long-term.
If this is your case, you can check out local or international charities that offer free or reduced-cost therapy. Depending on where you are living, you may also be able to access therapy through your National Health Service - contact your GP for further information.
Is online video therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
The debate is still open on the subject. Current research is proving that for many types of psychotherapy, online video therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy.
I offer online therapy to clients who are not based in Milan or to people who are unable to leave their home, and only if I assess that online therapy is appropriate for them.
Will what I share really be confidential?
Absolutely. Before starting therapy I will give you a signed document which incorporates a confidentiality agreement.
I am ethically and legally bound to confidentiality as per the Ethics Code of the Italian Board of Psychologists. This means that everything you share with me is completely confidential except in the case of 1) immediate threat of harm to self or others, 2) suspicion of abuse of child or dependent elder 3) in case of a court subpoena.
If you have any doubts or questions about confidentiality before or during therapy, I’ll be happy to discuss the matter further.
I’d like to improve my mental health but I don’t want to start therapy…
That’s absolutely fine - we can all aim to nurture our mental health, the same as we work on maintaining our physical health.
You can find a lot of material online to learn more about the various aspects of mental wellbeing.
There are also workshops you can join where professionals can guide you through experiential learning about mental, relational and emotional health.
You might want to join one of my Mental Wellbeing Workshops or follow me on Social Media for more material on improving your mental health.
