About me and my work

MULTICULTURAL BACKGROUND

I grew up in a mixed culture household (Italian-American), and have lived in the United States, Italy, and the U.K.

I’ve always been passionate about learning from different cultures, and trained in transcultural psychotherapy.

This broadened understanding of human beings has helped me appreciate the importance of keeping therapy open to topics such as cultural background, traditions, values, race and ethnicity, religion and spirituality, roles and identity.

Trauma Informed Therapy

In my years of training and working with people seeking political asylum, I have become particularly sensitive to the effects of grief and trauma on people’s mental and relational health and have developed specific training in these fields.

I have been inspired by how resilient human beings can be after significant trauma and loss – especially when offered the right kind of support. I bring this experience in my work with anyone who is experiencing grief or has gone through a traumatic event, supporting people in reconnecting to themselves, to others, and to their community in order to foster post-traumatic growth.

Relationships and community

I strongly believe in the positive impact of healthy relationships and community bonds, and support all my clients to nurture authentic connections with others, be it through individual therapy, couple’s therapy, or group workshops.

Eco-psychology

In recent years I’ve extended my work as a psychologist to include my passion for nature, delving into the field of eco-psychology. Current research on mental health is bringing to light the powerful benefits of connecting to nature, while at the same time we are witnessing a rise in eco-anxiety – the sense of angst around the devastating effects of ecological degradation and climate change.

Where clinically relevant, I integrate nature in the psychotherapeutic process using evidence-based practices such as Walk&Talk therapy to support the best outcomes for clients (and where possible for our local ecology). In addition, I have trained in Climate Aware Therapy and am committed to acknowledge the mental-health impacts of climate change, and strive to support people in understanding how to make sense of and address the current climate and ecological crisis.

Positive Psychology

When given the right support, information and tools, human beings have the potential to become bearers of creativity, positive action, and mutual support. By sharing my knowledge and experience of psychology, I hope to help others leverage the amazing potential of the human mind so we can all make positive contributions in the communities we inhabit.
